  One of my favorite days in elementary school was Dr. Seuss day! We got to come to school in pjs and read our favorite books at school. Here is a fun way to decorate your Bulletin Board for Dr.Seuss Day!

Personalized Thing 1’s and Thing 2’s.

What you will need to create your Thing 1 & 2: Yellow construction paper, Red, White & Light Blue paint , Scissors and a black pen.

• Step one: Start with a full sheet of yellow construction paper, paint the palm of your student's hand white, and paint the fingers light blue. Press their hand in the middle of the yellow paper. Remove it slowly and wash their hand.
• Step two: Once the child's hand has been washed off and dried. Paint the hand again, this time with a white circle in the middle of the palm and everything else red except the middle finger. You will be placing this hand opposite of the other hand print.
• Step three: Let it dry.
• Step four: Once dry get a black pen. Draw the face and write Thing 1 or Thing 2 on the white circle.
• Step five: Cut around the hand prints leaving a yellow border around the edge. You have a homemade Thing 1 or 2 to add to the bulletin board.

How to make the Grinch grin classroom craft

 

Items needed: red, yellow, green, white & black construction paper, crayons, cotton balls, ribbon, bells, pom-poms, glue, scissors, curling ribbon, glitter, camera

You will want to get a photo of each kid in the class. It can be printed in black & white or in color depending on your resources.

Once you have the photos cut out, glue them to the bottom left hand side of the black construction paper.

Using a white crayon, write the Childs name (if it’s a girl follow her name with - Lou Who, If its a boy follow his name with a –Who Who) add curly cues to make the names more decorative.

Take the red construction paper and cut out a Santa’s hat, its a curved triangle.

With the green construction paper you will be cutting a light bulb shape, keep in mind the children will be adding a smile to the bottom part of this light bulb shape, make sure it’s big enough for the children to write a few sentences on how they would make the Grinch smile.

Using the yellow construction paper cut out two teardrop shapes for the eyes of the Grinch, rounded on one end and pointy on the other end.

Now on white construction paper cut out a big “U” shape for the smile of the Grinch.Have the children write how they would make the Grinch smile or if its for the younger children have them draw a photo.

Once the children have written their sentence or drawn their photos, have them assemble and glue the grinch to the black construction paper, using a black marker have them draw a circle for his nose and color in his eye balls.

Finally, let them loose on all the other decorative items they have at their tables (yarn ,ribbon, glitter, string, pom-poms and anything else you can think of craft wise to add) have them glue these items to the top of their heads to create fun hairstyles just like the Who’s had in the book.

Dr Seuss’ Birthday Celebration Ideas

Here’s a tasty treat for your students to enjoy! You will need Oreos, red Life Saver Gummies and white icing or marshmallow fluff. Start by opening up the Oreos to create the base of the hat. Then alternate starting with a layer of icing and then a life saver gummy. Repeat this process until the hat is as tall as you would like.



For a healthier alternative of the hat snack, try cutting up a few bananas and strawberries and alternating them on a skewer. It gives the same effect of the hat with some healthier snack food choices.



This craft is both adorable and easy to create. You will need finger paint in red, blue and white to create this craft. You can also use whatever color construction paper you would like for the background. Starting with the red paint, take one of your students hands and paint it red, leaving out the ring finger. Have them firmly press the hand towards the bottom of the paper to create the body print. Next, paint the student’s palm white and  fingers blue. Have them add this print to the paper with their palm meeting the top of the palm of their other print. The fingers should be pointed upwards. Add a white circle of paint in the center of the red palm. After allowing the paint to dry, take a black marker and add on the face and “thing 1” onto the white circles.
