Football Trees

October is coming to an end and the leaves are falling. It can only mean Fall is here and Football games too!! It’s time to transition your rooms so, why not have the children help with the decorations this year with these Festive Fall Football Trees!

Items needed: Construction paper, Silver Sharpie, Glue or glue sticks and Scissors

Pick out the colors you would like the children to work with. (Suggetions on colors to use: red, orange, yellow, for those who would like to add more colors add purple, blue and pink )

For the leaves: cut ovals in all the colors you would like the tree leaves to be, repeating this step as needed to aquire the amount of leaves needed for a full tree. Using the brown construction paper, cut out all of the footballs in an oval shape as well.

(You can have the little ones cut out the leaves and footballs or have them precut and ready to go to make craft time a breeze.)

For the trunk of the tree:  cut a rectangle with a wider trunk to give it the tree trunk look.

For the footballs: once the footballs have been cut out, use the silver shapie to add the lines of the threads on the football. (It’s best for the teachers to do this task due to it being a permanent marker and not a washable marker.)

Now that all the parts of the trees have been cut out and the footballs have been lined, use the glue or glue sticks to layer the leaves and footballs to the tree trunk creating a… Ready… set… hike…Football Tree.

Busy Bee Craft

 

Need a quick and easy craft for the spring and summer seasons? Here is a fun idea sent to us by Nikkie at Apple Tree Academy that your students will buzz over!

This cute, little bee craft is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Here is what you will need:

Yellow, Black and White Construction Paper; Glue or Glue Sticks; Markers; Scissors

Depending on the age of your students, you can either let them prepare their own bee pieces or you can have them ready to go before they start. You will need a yellow oval, 4 or 5 black rectangles and 1 white heart. The yellow oval will be the body, the black rectangles will represent the black stripes and the white heart will be the wing.

Begin by having the students write their name on the back of the oval. Next, they can begin gluing on the pieces. First the stripes and then the wing. We encourage you to allow students to place the stripes however they would like. It allows for a look that will be a little different with each child’s imagination.

Now it’s time to add on the other details. Have students take a marker and give their bee an eye, a happy smile, and six legs. 

Now you have a fun and friendly bee for a quick spring or summertime craft!

2013 flew by didn’t it? For the new year, we encourage you to try something new! There are several ways that you can change up your everyday routine when it comes to the classroom and your students. Here are a few ideas to get your class in the new year spirit.

The typical way to start off the new year is to create your goals or resolutions. Since the new year is the half-way mark for the school year, this is a great time to check on student’s progress and take a look at how far each student has come. You can mark off certain goals they have met and create the new ones for the second half of the year. This is an excellent time of encouragement and perspective for the children. Remember to continue encouraging them as you reflect and create new goals.

Another way to incorporate something new is to change the look of your classroom. You can do this by adding new posters, bulletin board sets, furniture and more. You can change or add an item or two or even change up the entire room! This will give a fresh look to your classroom that will encourage your students to proceed with a fresh mindset as well.

While changing up the classroom decor, you could also think about adding some new material in your curriculum as well as your book and game selection. This is the perfect time to add in material of the next level to give your students a challenge. By doing so you will give them that extra push they need to finish out the school year strongly. Plus, they will love having new games to play and new books to read.

Don't forget about snack time or lunch time! This is a fun way to put a new spin on the new year. Change up the food you serve and give your students a chance to try something new. You could even incorporate snacks that coordinate with your lessons. This would also be a great time to discuss health and nutrition as well.

Lastly, take some time out of your day to add something fun to do as a class. This might be a silly song or even a two minute dance party! Get creative here. This will create a time everyday that students look forward to. This time would probably be most beneficial in the middle of the day. It is the perfect way to get those wiggles and giggles out and wake students back up to continue with the day.

Ways to use Border Decorations

There are several ways to use border decorations in your classroom.

1. Put them around your bulletin board. Border decorations were originally marketed for bulletin boards and this remains their most popular use.

2. Divide your bulletin board, whiteboard, or chalkboard into sections. You can put a border decoration down the middle of your bulletin board to make two sections. Smaller sections can be used to display rules or homework assignments.

3. Put them around your whiteboard and chalkboards. You can decorate your boards each season or by subject.

4. Put them around your windows. Accenting your windows with border decorations will make them appear larger and brighter.

5. Use them to make a makeshift bulletin board. If your classroom doesn’t have a bulletin board, you can put borders around part of the wall. Cover the space between them with fabric or fadeless paper and tape up what you want to display.

6. Frame pictures or student work. Border decorations make colorful and inexpensive frames for anything you want to put on your wall.
