How to Play Kickball

Kickball is a great outdoor sport that requires little equipment. A kickball field is set up much like a baseball field. Four bases are needed, and one 10-inch rubber playground ball. Set the four bases into a diamond shape, 40 feet apart. Place the pitcher’s mound 30 feet away from home base. Divide players into two equal teams. Each team will need to have eight to ten players.

How to Play

One team will take the defensive fielding position and one team will take the offensive kicking position. The team playing defense will need two players spread out between first and second base, and two player spread out between second and third base. Designate one player to be the pitcher and one to be the catcher. Place two to four players in the outfield, spread out evenly.

One player at a time from the offensive team will walk up to home plate to kick. The pitcher will roll the ball to the kicker. The ball must roll over home base to be considered a strike. For younger children, allow a larger strike zone or move the pitcher’s mound close to home base. A strike is called when an offensive player kicks and misses, or the player does not kick and the ball is rolled in the strike zone. Three strikes and the offensive player is out. If the kicker makes contact with the ball, he or she will run towards first base, which is the base located towards the right. The kicker will try to run to the base before the defense catches the ball and throws it to first base. The defense may also tag the runner or throw the ball and hit the runner below the shoulders to get them out. If a ball is kicked in the air, and the defense catches it before the ball hits the ground, the offensive player is out. Once the offensive runner has made it to a base, he or she is safe. Two offensive players cannot be on one base at the same time. One player must progress to the next base. Each kicker to make it around all the bases to home plate counts as one run. Once three outs are made by the team playing defense, the two teams switch offensive and defensive positions. Once each team has had a chance to kick, inning one is finished. Play until six innings have been completed, or until fifty minutes have passed. The team with the greatest score wins!

Spin Around:

Spilt your group into 2-3 even teams. The 1st student of each group starts at the beginning of the start line. Use a bat and make the kids spin around with their forehead on the bat 7 times. Once they are good and dizzy, make them run to the other side of the field and back. Once the child makes it back the next person in line starts spinning. The first team to have all their team mates spin around the bat and run the course wins!

Balloon POP

Spilt your group into 2-3 even teams. The 1st student of each group starts at the beginning of the start line. They will run across the field to a chair which will have a balloon on it. They will then have to bounce on the balloon until it pops. Once the balloon pops, they will run back to the group and the next person in line begins. A fun idea is to have each classroom teacher involved as well.

Hydration Tips for Children

Keeping your children full of fluids is important all year long. Water makes up 55% of adult females and 60% of adult males.Newborn babies, on the other hand, are made up of 75% water. This percentage slowly decreases over the human lifespan. Dehydration occurs when the body does not have enough fluid. The body loses fluid from breathing, sweating, high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Closely monitor your children when they are sick and encourage them to drink frequently. Symptoms of dehydration consist of dry mouth, dizziness, sunken eyes, inability to produce tears, low energy, and decrease in urination.

Children are unaware of the consequences of dehydration. It is your job to implement a daily routine in your children’s lives. Many children dislike drinking water and prefer to drink liquid when it is sweet and flavored. Start with a juice concentrate that does not add any additional sugar and is enriched with vitamins. Children prefer to drink small amounts of fluid, rather than a large amount at one time. Have several breaks throughout the day and set an example by joining them in the activity.

On hot days, have your children wear lightly-colored and loosely-fitting clothing. Pick out a shaded area and have a water break every 15 to 20 minutes.

Set time aside to educate your children about the importance of hydration. Taking an active role in your children’s lives can have a huge impact in their health and wellness for years to come.

Choosing the Right Can Liner

It can be difficult to find the right trash bag. Start by finding the gallon size of the container. Most tall kitchen trashcans range from 10 to 15 gallons and require a 24X32 to 24X33 size bag. Easter Game for Kids

Hula Hop Race

Divide the classroom into two equal teams. Have each team stand in a straight line (so that, other than the first child in the line, each child faces the back of the child in front of them). Arrange five hula hoops in a single-file row extending away from the first child in each line. The first child from each team will hop like a bunny in the hula hoop nearest the team, and continue to hop from one hula hoop to the next in order until the child reaches the end of the hula hoops. Once the child reaches the last hula hoop, he or she will turn around and hop all the way back to the starting point. Once the child has returned, he or she will tag the next player in line to begin hopping. A team is finished when each child in the line has hopped to the end of the hula hoops and back. The first team to finish wins!
