Balloons around the World day!

Need a fun project for kids to do? We have just the project for your classroom!!
They get to create their own globe!

Items needed:
·         A round balloon
·         Recycled newspaper
·         Bowl of water-flour mixture (one part flour for two parts water) or use starch
·         Continent Outlines
·         Blue Liquid Tempera Paint
·         Paintbrush Assortment
·         Washable Fine-Tip Markers

Directions:
1.     Teacher preparations: Tear strips of newspaper about 1 inch wide, and blow up and tie a round balloon for each child.
2.     Have students apply paper-mâché to the balloon by dipping strips of newspaper into the water-flour mixture, make sure they wipe off the excess mixture, then continue wrapping the strips around the surface of the balloon.
3.     Have the students cover the surface completely at least three times. Let it dry overnight. The balloon can then be popped and will tear itself away from the inside of the dried globe.
4.     Have students paint the entire surface of their globes with a layer of blue paint.
5.     Print out the Continent Outlines and have students color and cut out each continent.
6.     Show students a globe of the Earth and help them glue their continents in the appropriate location on their balloon globes.
7.      Encourage students to mark an “X” on the location where they live!

September 15:  Make a hat day.

We have come across some pretty cool hat designs for kids to make and decorate in your classroom.

Hat design # 1: King and Queen Crowns

  • Take a paper plate and fold it in half, cut the center of the plate like a pizza to create the triangles of the crown.
  • Have the children color and decorate the hat the way they would like it to look. Then have the children fold the triangles up to create the crown.
  • Now they can wear their master piece throughout the day and show off their artistic talent.

Hat design # 2: Ladybug Headband

  • Grab a sheet of construction paper and wrap it around the child’s head to make sure this will fit on their head. Size it according to comfort for the child.
  • Take a hole punch and in the middle of the head band punch to holes, this is where you will thread the pipe cleaner through to create the antennas of the lady bug.
  • Next cut a semi circle and place it under the hole punches. Creating the face of the lady bug.
  • Have the children glue some wiggle eyes and draw a smile with a white crayon.
  • Last have the children decorate the rest of the headbands with a black marker or crayon and draw the dots of the lady bug.

Hat design # 3: Pirate

  • Have the children follow these simple folding steps below to create a pirate hat:

  • Once they have created their awesome hat, have them decorate it by coloring it or adding stickers and glitter to personalize their pirate hats!

We hope these hats give you some great ideas to make your own fun and crazy hat!
